Bus driver in custody following fatal accident in Lakena

Police have confirmed that the 46-year-old bus driver who was involved in a fatal accident in Lakena, Nausori yesterday is now in police custody.
Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says the driver has recovered and is being questioned.
Two students died as a result of the bus accident while another two students are in critical condition.
Seventeen other students received medical treatment and were sent home.
Several students were initially rushed to the Nausori Health Center yesterday with reports that the bus was carrying Primary School students on their way home at the time of the accident.
Investigation continues.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Bus Operators Association General Secretary Rohit Latchan extended his heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the children who lost their lives.
Latchan says no parent should have to suffer the heartbreak of having to bury their children and also recognize the agony of those children still recovering in hospital and that of their parents, friends and relatives.
He adds that the association is aware the public will look to the bus industry to step up efforts to ensure such accidents never happen again and they are committed to ongoing improvements and efficiencies.
