Bus companies take advantage of tax concessions

Bus companies are taking advantage of the government’s tax holiday for the bus industry.

In the latest move, Raiwaqa Buses Limited of Suva added two new buses worth $400, 000 to its fleet.

Land Transport Authority, Chief Executive, Naisa Tuinaceva says, he is working with bus proprietors to improve bus services.

“This is what we’ve been talking about. At one stage we’ve been talking about phasing out of buses, retiring of old buses there’s lots of thing we’ve been discussing with the bus operators but you can see they are slowly coming into this and we are so happy it’s all for the public.”

Tuinaceva adds now that bus operators are improving the busses, people should act responsibly when travelling in them.

“The bus operators are doing their best to get good buses but then the public – they have to look after these buses, take full ownership as it is for them.”

The new busses were bought from China.
