A study has found that the bulk of the government’s health spending is focused on the poor.
The Sustainable Healthcare Financing in Fiji Study or SHIFT provides the Ministry with evidence on to further improve the financing of health service delivery.
Minister Jone Usamate says they want to ensure that everyone in Fiji can access health care services without financial hardship.
“The report seeks to inform about how fair the current health financing system is and where attention is needed for improvement. Fiji is seeking to deepen its commitment to equitable access to health care and make Universal Health Coverage (UHC) a reality.”
The report shows that Fiji’s poor are getting a fair share of the benefits from government’s healthcare budget.
There are more poor families using nursing stations, health centres and out-patient and in-patient services at major hospitals.
Those better off are opting for private health facilities.
