Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation Chief Executive Nezbitt Hazelman
It is important for employers to build a culture of trust within the organization.
Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation Chief Executive Nezbitt Hazelman made the comment in relation to the new leave provisions by government that became effective from the first of January this year.
These provisions include family care leave, paternity leave and the extended maternity leave.
Hazelman is encouraging employers to develop a culture where they can trust their employees when applying for the new leave entitlements.
“So when an employee saying hey somebody is sick in my house ,you can believe them ,you trust them that they not going out to watch rugby game or go to Lautoka for instances and that they are honest and truthful ,that’s all about trust and the culture of the organization.”
Meanwhile on the other hand, Hazelman says if employees abuse the system, it will affect the work productivity.
Hazelman highlighted this during the employer’s forum last week where members of the Federation were advised on the new leave provisions.
