The Band now determines the salaries for each position.

“You must admit it has been an exciting budget especially for civil servants. I think there are a lot of happy civil servant around Fiji right now.”

Bainimarama says allocations made for the education sector and the Women Ministry is also welcoming.

“I think the one to do with our youths, to do with education – the education budget, the increase in allowances for our women and the vulnerable society – the handicapped that have been given additional allowance from our social welfare programs. I think that is what has made this budget exciting for me.”

The education sector has been allocated $964.5m which accounts for 22% of the total national budget.
