October 31, 2018 12:16 am

Two youth clubs in the province of Bua now have their own canteen businesses running in their respective villages.

The canteens were established as a means to earn income to develop the rural economy and increase the savings of the youth clubs themselves.

The two youth groups, the Navuniwi Youth Club of Nasau and the Manawi Youth Club of Naiviqiri in Navakasiga Bua each constructed their own canteens and paid for their license.

Last week, Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou handed over about $4,000 worth of materials for canteens.

Speaking to the youths, Tuitubou applauded their initiative saying it should be a model for other youth groups around the country.

Tuitubou reminded the youths that their business venture will only be successful if they continue to work together.

The Navuniwi Youth Club received $2,275 worth of canteen stock and Manawi Youth Club received $1,949 worth of stock to kick start their canteen business.

The establishment of these canteens mean the villagers won’t have to travel far to buy items.

Previously it cost villagers $60 to travel to the nearest shopping centre at Nakadrudru.
