The Fiji Ex-servicemen association says funds donated by the Bank of South Pacific today following the sale of the poppy flower will go towards their housing scheme.

Association president – Ratu Peni Volavola says this project has been in the pipeline for a few years due to the unavailability of funds.

Ratu Peni says the association has completed constructing a house and the $5000 cheque they received from BSP will go towards this project.

“Some men particularly those who went to Solomon Islands and to Maleya have now reached their twilight years and are now living as dependants with their grand children. They want something, a house to be independent.”

BSP country manager Kevin McCarthy presented the cheque to the association.
