The Nadi weather office continues to lose experienced forecasters overseas.

Director Meteorology – Alipate Waqaicelua says they can only work with what they have.

“The Nadi weather office is doing well under the circumstances it faces but we continue to lose experienced hands. We have had to hire new staff and I am confident that we can do a good job. This kind of situation is not new as we lose valuable staff to developed countries.”

Waqaicelua says they are doing all they can to retain staff.

“We can look at their remuneration packages. But we cannot stop people from leaving overseas.”

Waqaicelua adds they have mechanisms now in place to assist with their work in the future.
