Once the Nausori runway upgrade and extension is completed, it will allow the Fiji Airways Boeing 737 to land and take off on a full load.

Civil Aviation Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says at the moment, Fiji Airways is not making all the money it’s supposed to earn as it currently cannot carry the full cargo and number of passengers due to restrictions.

He says this has resulted in loss of revenue for Fiji Airways, Nausori airport and even those that reside near Nausori airport misses out on potential revenue.

_” But by lengthening and widening the runway, we’ll be able to increase the wealth in this area. It also has a spillover effect on all the land value around this airport now. because there will be a lot of demand for services and more people coming through the Nausori airport more people will want to live around here. More people will want to benefit from that. As a result we have a partnership of about four landowning units. Predominantly in the west and one now in Tailevu where we’re helping landowners divide and subdivide their own land.”-

He adds a lot land near the Nausori airport has the potential for landowners to subdivide it and sell their leases at premium prices that will ensure they receive more money.

Meanwhile, landowner and Head of the Buregadro clan Kaveni Ralagi says they look forward to benefitting from the new upgrade.

He adds they’re already witnessing this with other landowners who have benefitted from the land on which the current Nausori airport and runway sits on.
