Biosecurity grateful for 2015 budget allocation

The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji has been allocated six million dollars in next year’s budget.

Executive chairman – Xavier Riyaz Khan says the grant will help BAF further strengthen its objectives of border protection and international trade facilitation.

Khan says BAF has embarked on a comprehensive plan for the next few years which will see improvements of BAF’s past achievements and the service deliverables to BAF’s stakeholders and the ordinary individual Fijians.

Some of the major projects for next year include recruitment of Biosecurity Officers and trained scientific professionals, establishment of new Post Entry Quarantine facility in Legalega, Nadi, establishment of new stations in Taveuni and development of substations in Labasa and Sigatoka.

BAF will also work on establishing new incinerator at Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) in Koronivia, Savusavu, Levuka Ports, establishment of GIS Unit- National data collection for invasives, establishment of innovative mechanisms for containment of Asian Subterranean Termites (AST) and Giant Invasive Iguana.
