Be more prepared for the heat says Usamate

The Health Minister Jone Usamate says Climate change is affecting Fijians now and it all ties in with the increase in temperature and weather patterns.

During his ministerial speech in Parliament yesterday, Usamate said diseases previously unseen in Fiji will also appear, while common ailments will be more prevalent due to extreme weather conditions.

The Minister also says his Ministry is doing all it can to help Fijians understand the drastic measures that Climate change brings.

“The Ministry has been working closely with the wealth of organizations and development partners in developing and piloting adaptation arrangements which include general awareness and capacity building to vulnerable communities where we know communicable disease are prone. Providing information on climate sensitive diseases like typhoid, dengue and Leptosporosis.”

Usamate says Fijians need to be fully aware of the various diseases and ailments that result from the increase in weather temperatures.

Some of these diseases include water and air bone diseases and disease from urban air pollution.
