Internet is one the biggest contributor to students getting involved in sexual activities.

National Substance Abuse Advisory Committee Chief Executive Manoa Senikarawa says a record sixty cases of students involved in harassment were from the Central Division.

He adds thirty-six cases of similar behavior was also recorded from the west this year.

Senikarawa says counseling sessions conducted for these students discovered that having access to the internet contributed to it.

“We need to be mindful of the sites they visit in internet shops or on mobile phones and we need to advise them appropriately and we also need to be aware of what they are doing.”

Senikarawa says this issue shouldn’t be taken for granted and is advising parents to monitor their children when accessing the internet, especially during the holidays.
