It’s important that persons with disabilities are familiar with the people they choose to accompany them to polling stations to cast their vote on Election Day.

National Council of Persons with Disability, Executive Director Dr. Sitiveni Yanuyanutawa says the person chosen to be a carer will play a vital role.

“_With the election years that have gone past, this is the first time that we’re introducing this special provision for persons with disabilities to be accompanied by their carer or for those who cannot vote on their own. For persons with disabilities who will be accompanied by their carer, I hope that the level of understanding for persons with disabilities and their needs in that critical time of casting their vote is well tolerated by the third person or the carer that accompanies them.”_
