Rural Development Minister Inia Seruiratu says the institution of the Republic of the Fiji Military must be respected.

Responding to the President’s speech in parliament today, the former military officer expressed disappointment with the Opposition’s criticism of the military.

Seruiratu says the military is a highly respected institution and has its own ethos and professionalism.

“Let us be fair if we are to discuss the military in this honorable house, let us bring the politicians into the picture as well. Because it is the politicians who are dragging the military into this sad situation. The military has professional ethos, this is what most people don’t know. The politics in revolution.”

Seruiratu has defended any suggestions to reduce the number of soldiers saying that’s not the answer to long term stability for Fiji

Having spent almost two decades in the military, he has a different perspective of the disciplined forces.

Seruiratu says the RFMF provides jobs for thousands of people, contributes to the economy and proudly serves in war-torn countries where peace keepers are badly needed.
