Xinfa Aurum Exploration is expanding its bauxite mining operation in Vanua Levu.

The company has secured additional Special Prospecting License in Nawailevu, Bua and Naibulu East Mine, in Dreketi.

Mine Manager Isireli Dagaga says there’s little work left at Nawailevu.

_“A couple of thousand tonnes there that are still to be taken for washing otherwise there is nothing left at Nawailevu. Nawailevu is in two parts we have a bit at Nawailevu North and we are going to wash those materials there once the Dreketi washing plant is in full operations then we will bring over the materials from Nawailevu.” _

The Naibulu mine lies just beside the Dreketi-Nabouwalu Highway.

It’s not fully operational yet but trucks are already dumping soil in stockpiles.
Several sites in Vanua Levu have also been identified as having bauxite.

Earlier this year, the company exported 69,000 tonnes of bauxite to China.

The next shipment of about 70,000 tonnes should be ready by January, 2017.
