Basic counseling skills taught in schools

The Ministry of Education will implement counseling units for trained teachers in schools before the end of the year.

About 50 participants were taken through basic counseling skills in a workshop at Bhawani Dayal High School in Nakasi .

Ministry of Education Executive Support Unit Coordinator Emele Naisele says teachers will be taught basic counseling skills so that they can handle situations involving students.

“It is just to equip our teachers with a basic skills and the knowledge of counseling so they become the first liners of counselors to their forms to their students in schools so we hope that once we’ve imparted to them the knowledge and the skills with a lot of practice they should be able to handle a problem situation in school effectively.”

Teachers in the Eastern Division will receive their training next term.
