Bank robbers sentencing this afternoon

Six men who have been convicted in connection with the $70,000 robbery at the BSP Samabula Branch in 2012 will be sentenced by the High Court this afternoon.

The accused are Kunal Prasad, Josaia Usumaki, Tevita Sugu, Epeli Qaraniqio, Solomoni Qurai and Deshwar Dutt.

Prasad and Usumaki were found guilty for aggravated robbery whilst the other four were found guilty for receiving stolen property namely the money stolen from the heist.

After their sentencing, State Prosecutors will file another case against some of the accused.

State prosecutors had earlier told the court they wanted to open another file against Qaraniqio, Sugu, Qurai and Usumaki; in relation to an alleged robbery at Suva’s Peninsula Hotel in 2012.
