Prime Minister Hon Voreqe Bainimarama has received the ICTs in Sustainable Development Award in New York.
The prestigious award was presented honours the important contribution made towards harnessing the potential of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for sustainable development.
Bainimarama in his acceptance speech said information technology as part of a larger plan to empower our people and create opportunities.
He says the government wants to be sure that no one is denied the benefits of the modern world – and Fiji needs to connect people in rural and urban areas to the modern economy through quality infrastructure.
The Prime Minister also added that bridging the digital divide among all cross sections of society will help bridge political, cultural and social divides.
The government, according to Bainimarama will continue to expand the ICT footprint.
