“He is a confused person and he personalizes everything”

Fiji First Leader Voreqe Bainimarama says there is no truth in the SODELPA leaders claim that his brother’s name is on the list of debtors of the old NBF.

”Well he said that he has got a record of my brother’s debt, he may have a record of my brothers debt given to him by the police that was in, I think 1996 but the record the reserve bank has about the debtors, my brother’s name is not on the list which means he has paid his debt, that should have been on the initial record.”

Rabuka has maintained his statement despite not having shown any evidence adding that he has documents to back up his claims.

”I think he went to the Reserve Bank to find out proof or otherwise for what I said and he was probably told that it was not true. I can substantiate my claim also with a document so he may have one document, I have another document, mine is from the report by the Commissioner of Police."

FBC News has managed to verify that Timoci Bainimarama’s name is not on the list that is with the Reserve Bank.

Bainimarama says Rabuka is personalizing issues because he has no leg to stand on as Fiji gets ready to vote next week.

He says Rabuka does not want to admit that he was the reason for the demise of the NBF.

”The reason he has come up with that is because he is very personal. He is being put into a corner because of the destruction of the National Bank of Fiji during his prime ministership and because of that, he was being put in a corner so he gets very personal. That’s why he came up with my brother’s name not knowing my brother had paid his debt

Bainimarama says the National Bank of Fiji broke down because of Rabuka’s leadership.

The crash of the National Bank of Fiji in the late 1990s remain the biggest financial scandal in Fiji’s history .
