Bainimarama arrives in NY for Summit

Prime Minister Bainimarama arrived in New York early this morning to attend the UN Sustainable Development Summit and the General Debate of the UN General Assembly’s 70th Session.

The Prime Minister attended briefings at the Permanent Mission of Fiji to the United Nations today, in the company of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.

The brief for the Prime Minister included an overview of Fiji’s UN peacekeeping commitments and future plans.

The Fiji Mission’s Military and Police Adviser, Col. Manoa Gadai, highlighted the work of Fijian personnel currently serving in UN blue helmets in Darfur, the Golan Heights, Iraq, Lebanon and South Sudan.

Fiji’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Peter Thomson, briefed the Prime Minister on the progress being achieved on the adoption of the draft UN Resolution to Mandate the Triennial UN Conferences on Oceans and Seas.

He said that these Triennial Conferences were being created to ensure the integrity of the implementation of the sustainable development goal on Ocean’s health.
