Bainimarama allays doubts among cane farmers

Prime Minister and Minister for Sugar Voreqe Bainimarama has urged cane farmers in the Rakiraki and Tavua districts not to be swayed by lies spread by those discrediting the work carried out in the Sugar Industry.

Bainimarama says the feedback from the Sugar Bill consultation process is that there is a lot of anxiety among cane farmers in the country.

Bainimarama is holding a round of talks in the sugar belt and has met with farmers form Tavua and Rakiraki so far.

He’s assured them of the government’s commitment to reviving the industry in the aftermath of TC Winston.

Apart from government’s assistances to the farmers, the anticipated arrival of new FSC Chairman Vishnu Mohan should spur renewed energy in the way forward for the Industry.

Bainimarama and his team of government officials will be touring cane farming communities around the western division this weekend and the coming week to consult and get feedback from farmers on the way forward.
