A woman accused of trying to snatch a baby from Auckland’s Middlemore Hospital has admitted a kidnapping charge.
Neha Narayan, who is from Fiji pleaded guilty to the charge before Justice Peter Woodhouse at the High Court in Auckland yesterday.
Narayan was originally facing a charge of abduction but that was changed to one of kidnapping in July.
She allegedly had faked a pregnancy and asked her partner to drop her off because she was in labour before spending several hours roaming the hospital’s birthing ward and seizing a baby in January this year.
Hospital staff had noted her behaviour and called police after she carried the baby into the hospital car park.
Narayan will be sentenced on October 26.
