Ba woman dies in house fire

A woman has died in a house fire in Sarava, Ba this afternoon.

She is believed to be one of the occupants of the three-bedroom home.

Firefighters attended to an emergency call around 1.50pm.

Upon arrival at the scene, the fire team found that the corrugated iron house was fully engulfed in flames.

The fire crew quickly used deliveries of water to quickly extinguish the fire and stop it from spreading to nearby houses.

The NFA says it understands the deceased was bed-ridden and alone at home when the fire started, whilst her husband and son were away.

Meanwhile, NFA attended to another fire incident at the Tavua Police Barracks this morning.

Upon arrival, the fire team saw the ground floor of the first unit was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent three units.

People occupying the barracks managed to evacuate safely without any injuries.

Eight people occupied the unit that caught fire.

The Authority is now working with Police to conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
