Ba town clean-up begins

April 4, 2012 1:26 am

Flood damage by the recent floods will be more than the January floods says Ba Town Council Special Administrator Arun Prasad.

Prasad says they are yet to arrive at a figure on the cost of damages, as business owners have just begun cleaning up.

“To assess the damages is too early and this stage and I would say it will take bit of a time to get the full report on the flood damages.”

Flooding that wreaked havoc in the western division last week is said to be the worst in Fiji’s history.

Shop owners and the people of Ba have begun cleaning up even though the town is experiencing light showers today.

Prasad says council workers are working over two shifts to help restore the town to normalcy.

“All the people are busy especially shop owners. They are busy trying to clear their shops. All the damaged items are out on the roadsides and the Council is trying to clear all the rubbish.”

Prasad says they are focusing on cleaning the market area and the taxi stand first so that business can resume as normal.
