Authorities Work together for a safe festive season

The Fiji Police Force and the Land Transport Authority have begun their joint traffic operation for the festive season.

Past trends show there is often an increase in traffic offenses like driving under the influence of alcohol and over speeding during this time of the year.

Police Chief of operation, ACP Rusiate Tudravu says the police force will be coming down hard on traffic offenders.

“This is normal operation they use to do however it will intensify once we go into the festive period operations as we are expecting and anticipating a lot of movements on our highway, so you expect visibility of police vehicles and traffic officers along the road as we go towards Christmas and also new year season”

Breathalyser tests will also be carried out randomly on drivers.

LTA Chief executive, Naisa Tuinaceva says officials are determined to make this festive season safe for all road users.

“Our job really is to ensure a safe and a good festive season so thats what we doing now together with the police and its collaboration its work with the authorities and even at this time too we including some of the support from the ministry of council and that really boost our manpower and also the team”

Monitoring will be increased around the country and the Police Force has fully equipped its officers.
