Police and the National Fire Authority are investigating the cause of the fire that destroyed New World Supermarket at the Tebara Complex in Nakasi last night.

NFA CEO John O’Connor says they received the emergency call at around 10pm at the Nausori Police Station.

The fire had already spread to half of the building when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters from the Suva, Nausori and Valelevu fire stations were called in to prevent the fire from spreading.

“When we arrived the bulk section of the supermarket was fully ablaze, so we started fighting the fire, we also sought assistance from the AFL so the fire fighters from the airport came and assisted us to stop the fire and prevent it from spreading to the other parts of the building.”

It’s suspected the fire started from the bulk of the Supermarket.

Investigations continue.
