Authorities in Suva are collaborating to ensure the festive season is safe and enjoyable for everyone.

The City Council, police and retailers have assured the city is safe and security measures have been ramped up for what is the busiest time of the year.

SCC Chair, Isikeli Tikoduadua says more Closed Circuit Television or CCTV security cameras are being installed.

“Suva City Council has invested in CCTV cameras now and placed them along with various strategic areas. We are collaborating with the police force so they can link to the footage in real-time.”

SCC officers will be out to ensure that city by-law are adhered to, while police will keep an eye out for criminals.

Suva Retailers Association President Vinay Kumar has assured shoppers they can conduct their business without concern.

“We’ve got Christmas and back to school together. The hive of activites has started. We see a trend where the hive of activities start slowly – things happen in the last few days and we see a mad rush in the last few days.

Police patrols have also been ramped up with 80% of the force out on the streets at any given time.
