Australians want government to re-engage with Fiji

The Lowy Institute has found a majority of Australian support their government re-engaging with Fiji.

This year’s poll of Australian opinions included the question asking if the government should re-engage at a ministerial level with Fiji government.

Nearly 80 per cent gave their support.

The Acting Head of the Lowy Institute’s Melanesian Program, Annmarree O’Keefe says in many ways that re-engagement has begun.

Foreign Minister Bob Carr earlier this week had announced that Australia
Has offered $2.6m to support Fiji’s elections.

The Australian poll has been released less than a year since a Lowy poll of Fijian attitudes indicated support for the government.
