Australian National charged in relation to drug bust

The second suspect alleged to be involved in the unlawful importation of drugs and ammunition in Denarau has been charged.

Forty-five-year-old Australian National John Nikolic has been charged with one count of importation of illicit drugs, one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and one count of failure to declare arms and ammunition to a customs officer.

The accused will be produced at the Nadi Magistrates Court this morning.

Nikolic had allegedly consumed an unknown substance during the raid on his yacht at Port Denarau two weeks ago and was discharged from hospital yesterday.

The raid last month was carried out by FRCA, Police, the Biosecurity Authority and the Health Department.

Officials seized 13 bricks of Cocaine weighing 15 Kilograms as well as Ecstasy tablets with an estimated value of 20 to 30 million dollars from the yacht.

They also found $30,000 in undeclared currency, guns and ammunition on board.

Meanwhile his partner Yvette Nikolic is in remand charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs, one count of possession of illicit drugs and one count of failure to declare firearms and ammunition.
