Australia has committed to deliver a comprehensive border security assistance package to help reinforce the integrity of Fiji’s borders.

This commitment was made by Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison during his visit to Fiji last week.

The commitment was reaffirmed when Commissioner of the Australian Border Force, Michael Outram, met the Fiji Revenue and Customs chief executive Visvanath Das yesterday.

Das says the initiatives will build on long-established partnerships between our border security agencies, and will contribute to strengthening border management and security across the region.

Das also thanked the Australian government and the Australia Border Force for the support towards FRCS in the form of customs modernization, technical assistance and capacity building.

This, he says has helped the FRCS improve its core roles –border protection, security, trade facilitation, revenue and compliance.

Outram says the Australian Border Force is committed towards assisting Fiji to keep its borders safe.

Outram says it is rather unfortunate that crime syndicates continue to target our borders through drug peddling and smuggling.
