Australian assistance pours in under Fiji’s new partnership

The Vuvale Partnership for the Fiji Australia relationship has brought with it a broad range of assistance.

Officially wrapping up his two day bilateral visit to Fiji, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison commending Fiji’s economic progress and highlighting the importance of both economies thriving.

The Aussie goodies bag is supporting a range of initiatives, on labour mobility, there’s a real possibility of Fijians taking up three year work contracts in Australia.

“We’re beginning work on Fiji’s entry into the Australian Pacific Labour Scheme as I’ve mentioned that has already occurred and we look forward to that playing out of the course of next year and beyond. We also welcome Fiji into the Pacific Medicine Testing Program that’s a joint initiative of the therapeutic goods administration and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Fiji will join nine other Pacific Island countries that are participating in that program.”

Easing restrictions on Australian visa’s for Fijians was also part of the talks, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama applauding the opening up of trade on one of Fiji’s favourite drinks.

“That Australia will be easing restrictions on kava imports, a move that will undoubtedly enrich the lives of Fijian Yagona farmers for generations to come and as we look to loosen the flow of goods, we hope to do the same with our people.”

Meanwhile the Australian Prime Minister is visiting the RFMF Blackrock Training Camp this hour as his final official engagement before he departs for Australia.
