Australian Ambassador for Women announces funding

Fiji will be one of three countries that will receive aid from the Australian Government in the area pertaining to Women.

Ambassador Natasha Stott Despoja says she looks forward to working closely with Fiji for the successful implementation of the aid.

“Two point two million dollars over the next five years for three countries including Fiji for the Mother of Pearl project. Economic empowerment is very important to the Minister Julie Bishop objective. The second being women’s leaderships either in their communities, civil society and even politics.”

Ba Women’s Forum executive Dr Doton says the visit shows the strengthening ties between Australia and Fiji on issues relating to women.

‘’Ba is the holder of the ACIR funded project of the Australian High Commission. This is the popular mother of pearl project. So we are really concentrating on the empowerment of women’’.

Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Dr Josefa Koroivueta met with Despoja and several other women’s leaders today.
