Australia focuses on immediate help

February 29, 2016 6:22 pm

The Australian High Commissioner to Fiji Margaret Twomey says they are currently helping villagers and settlements affected by the Cyclone with immediate relief rations.

Twomey says their next step will be to help with recovery where they will work with Fiji to get it back on its economic and social footing.

“With immediate response like everyone we are taking our direction from the NDMO and the principal priorities remain for shelter, hygiene and sanitations – that is still what we are focusing on and will be for some time to come. We are also looking at getting schools ready to be opened again, helping fix clinics so they can be usable again and doing whatever we can to help with vital infrastructure.”
