Aussie to send envoy to Fiji

Australia will soon send its first High Commissioner to Fiji since 2009.

The decision was reached following a meeting of the foreign ministers of Fiji, New Zealand and Australia.

Government had kicked out Australia’s last envoy to Fiji James Batley in November 2009 – accusing him of meddling in local politics.

In the meeting in Sydney yesterday, the ministers agreed to restore official relations to ensure ‘’open and effective’’ dialogue.

The deal will also see Fiji send an envoy back to Canberra.

Fiji’s last envoy to Australia was kicked in retaliation to the expulsion of Batley
New Zealand will also exchange representatives with Suva.
