Attempted Murder suspect granted bail

A 33-year-old man facing attempted murder charges has been bailed by the Suva High Court today.

Anil Chand is charged with one count each of attempted murder and assault causing actual bodily harm.

It is alleged that on July last year, Chand who was in a relationship with the complainant went to her flat in Vatuwaqa, Suva and confronted her as to why she wanted to leave him.

Chand had allegedly taken a knife along with him and stabbed the complainant several times on her back and abdomen.

It is alleged the complainant’s sister ran into the room after hearing her scream, where she was also allegedly stabbed by the accused.

Chand has been bailed on strict conditions with a curfew and required to report to the Rakiraki Police Station every Sunday.

A cash bail bond of $1,000 by sureties has also been set.

The case has been stood down for July 10th.
