The Agriculture Ministry will provide assistance packages to all final year students entering commercial farming at Navuso Agriculture School.
Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy says this is to ensure that the agriculture sector meets growing demands locally and internationally.
“What we will do, we will do the groundwork at our cost, we will provide you with the planting material at our cost, not livestock but crop products up to 10 acres, we will provide you with the market, later on, we will come and do your drainage and farm road. Now just to get you started, we will mobilize machines, we will clear your land, we will get the tractor to plough your land at no cost, zero cost for the first round.”
Dr. Reddy says family farms and family labourers served Fijians well decades ago but are no longer relevant.
23 students have successfully completed their studies at the Navuso Agriculture School this year and will be graduating tomorrow.
