Assessors have mixed opinions about rape trial

Three assessors have returned with a mixed opinion after their deliberation in the rape trial of a 31-year-old man who is alleged to have raped his wife with an eggplant.

Two assessors found the accused not guilty with the first count of rape and found him guilty with three counts of rape.

One assessor found the accused not guilty with two counts of rape and found the accused guilty with the other two counts of rape.

Justice Riyaz Hamza will deliver his judgement tomorrow.

The man is charged with four counts of rape.

The alleged incident occurred between November 30, 2015 and January 5, 2016.
