Assessors find road scam accused guilty

Assessors in a multimillion dollar road scam have delivered a unanimous verdict and found the accused guilty on all charges.

The four accused are Ba businessman, Feroz Jan Mohammed, Iliesa Turagacati, Navitalai Tamanitoakula and Aisea Liwaiono.

Mohammad, Turagacati and Tamanitoakula are charged with Bribery, Obtaining a Financial Advantage and Abuse of Office while Liwaiono has been charged with Causing a Loss.

They had all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It is alleged Mohammad, the Director of T.F Jan Bulldozing Company allegedly paid $110,000 to the two former employees of the then Department of Roads.

He then allegedly lodged false invoices and circumvented procedures to obtain an advantage of over $3 million.

The four men are on bail until Monday when Judge Justice Paul Madigan will deliver a judgement at the Suva High Court.
