Assessors find businessman guilty for drug charges

Assessors have found a businessman with drug related charges guilty.

Peniasi Sukanakoniferedi was found guilty by the assessors after the trial at Lautoka High Court on Tuesday.

Sukanakoniferedi was found guilty for one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs namely methamphetamine weighing over 4 kilograms.

He was also found guilty for one count of unlawful possession of controlled chemicals namely pseudoephedrine which weighed over 1 kg and one count of unlawful possession of control equipment namely a single punch tablet press machine.

The court heard these substances were seized from Energy Supplements Fiji Limited, located at the Nadi International Airport in 2014.

At the time, the accused was the director of the company.

The court also heard that the accused was well aware of the existence of all these items because he led the police to it.

The accused will be sentenced tomorrow by Judge Justice Paul Madigan.
