Assessments are underway to decide the future of the Penang Sugar Mill in Rakiraki.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says this will decide whether the Mill will remain or be refitted as a syrup mill.

The Sugar Minister says a decision will be made in the next two months

“But whichever way we go – a full mill or a syrup mill – it will not affect your ability to supply cane. And the work will commence immediately when the assessment is completed.”

With regards to the damaged bridge at Penang, Bainimarama says reconstruction will be complete before the next crushing season.
