Asia-Pacific to have strong tourism arrivals by 2030

The Asia-Pacific region is expected to have the strongest growth in visitor arrivals by 2030.

South Pacific Tourism Organization chief executive Chris Cocker says despite the economic benefits provided by tourism, many countries have experienced detrimental impacts as a result of poorly planned tourism developments.

Cocker says Fiji must start sharing development ideas for this growth.

Five Pacific Island countries and SPTO represented the Pacific at the Cultural Development for Sustainable Island Tourism in the Asia Pacific Region Workshop in Korea to learn and exchange information and best practices in tourism development.

Participants discussed good policies and practical sustainable tourism projects in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
