The ANZ Bank outlet at the Nausori Airport was robbed last night.
A group of men armed with cane knives and other items stormed into the airport at about 8pm and threatened two bank employees behind the counter before making off with an unknown amount of money.
The thieves smashed the glass partition on the service counter to get into the bank.
FBC News understands the thieves got away with cash in local and foreign currency.
By standers and security guards gave chase as the group fled in a black vehicle, however they were attacked with stones and knives.
One of the suspects then got out of the get-away car and removed crocodile teeth at the exit of the airport.
The robbery happened minutes before passengers from an inbound flight were to be processed through Customs and past the bank.
There were also many dozens of people waiting to catch an international flight out of Nausori.
