Approval process was way too quick: Kumar

Amongst the growing confusion over the WG Friendship Plaza at McGregor Road in Suva, Bhavesh Kumar, one of the official complainant is now raising concerns about the speed at which the approval for the project was given.

Apart from suggestions of irregularities, Kumar alleges the project is most likely non-compliant, adding that the Suva City Council was way too quick giving its approval.

“We had received a letter from Suva City Council after the project had started in terms of neighbors approval as we are one of the land owners around that project where Suva city council was asking for our approval to rezone the land from residential to commercial.”

Kumar claims if they would have done a similar project, the SCC would not have given its approval until all the requirements had been met.

“In terms of when we local investors have to do any project we are required to make sure that all procedures are followed, all approvals are in place before project is started in this case my only concern was that the land still hadn’t being converted from residential B to special tourism and the project had already started.”

Efforts to get comments from the city council about this latest allegation and other issues remain unanswered.
