Anti-whaling group denied entry to Fiji

An international anti whaling group has been denied entry into Fiji.

The Ministry of Defence issued a statement saying the Sea Shepherd Conservation Group is not welcome in Fiji.

Activists hunt down and ram whaling ships, illegal fishing vessels and other ships which is sees harming marine life.

Their next stop was to be Fiji.

They were to film a documentary on shark fining in Fiji waters, tracking down illegal fishing vessels.

The government says it’s working with local and international conservation organisations and the fishing industry and is committed to protecting marine resources.

The state says the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is a radical international group which sensationalises fishing practices, for self-promotion at the expense of disrupting legitimate conservation work.
