The Ministry of Health has launched its first ever Polio vaccine to immunize children and ultimately stop transmission.
Polio generally affects children under the age of three but the new In-activated Polio Vaccine will prevent infection by immunizing every child.
Health Minister Jone Usamate launched the vaccine in Valelevu Nasinu.
_"Implementation of the Polio endgame is the only way to ensure that the children of Fiji will live in a world of paralysis due to polio viruses. The complete eradication of all polio viruses will be one of the most remembered public health accomplishments of our generation."
The vaccine is being brought in through the assistance of the World Health Organization.
The Health Ministry is now urging parents to bring their children for immunization so that they can be fully protected against polio.
