Seven hundred and ninety-one amputations caused by Diabetes were carried out last year alone.
This is an increase of one hundred and twenty two cases as in 2015, six hundred and sixty nine diabetics lost one of their limbs.
Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Alex O’Connor revealed the figures during the launch of Diabetes Registration drive.
“This is a clear indication that there is a need for an alternative measure to contain this avalanche. It is also necessary for people living with diabetes to take ownership and be actively involved in the management of their health.”
The registration drive will run for four months.
