The Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has tabled a Bill to amend the Media Industry Development Decree 2010.

The amendment will cater for foreign-based pay per view service providers as well as cross ownership of these services thereby encouraging more investment in the broadcasting sector.

It also seeks to remove penalties in the Decree which apply to journalists.

The penalty of $1000 applies to journalists who fail to comply with the provisions of the decree.

Debate on the bill is underway in Parliament.
