Heavy penalties will be imposed against those caught littering under the Amended Drainage Act.
The Environment Ministry is now working on enforcing the Act to curb the litter problems.
Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy says littering is getting out of hand.
Dr Reddy says since the enforcement of the Litter Act, more than 300 hundred Litter Prevention Officers have been appointed and trained.
He says there is a need to take collective action to safeguard natural resources from the impacts of improper waste management.
The Ministry aims to train five hundred more litter prevention officers to enforce the Litter Act and Amended Drainage Act.
