Alleged rapist takes stand

A 33-year-old man who is alleged to have raped his defacto’ partners four-year-old adopted daughter confirmed in the Suva High court today that he had a sexual relationship with the victim’s biological mother.

The man is charged with two counts of rape and is alleged to have raped the four-year-old on March 16th this year in Navua.

The matter was reported to the police by the victim’s biological mother who had given her daughter for adoption in 2013.

During examination, the accused in his evidence said he had been in a relationship with the victim’s adopted mother for seven years.

However, his relationship with the victims biological mother began in 2014 and ended in October last year.

He also revealed in court that on the day of the alleged incident, he had an argument with his defacto partner who was blaming him for allegedly molesting the four-year-old girl.

The accused maintained in court that he loved the young girl and denied committing the crime.

The accused added there were constant arguments between him and his defacto partner who was suspecting that the four-year-old was his biological daughter as she had more facial resemblance of her uncle – the accused’s younger brother.

He also informed the court that he left the house on March 17th due to these tensions.

A week later he received a call from his defacto partner to take their adopted daughter to Suva with him.

He said he took the victim to his place for the weekend and returned home with the young girl on Monday.

However, he was arrested by Police on the Friday of that week.

He said the victim’s mother had reported the matter to police.

In his evidence, he also informed the court that the biological mother had wanted him to leave his defacto partner and be with her and the four-year-old girl.
