All speed cameras to go live from Monday

All speed and red light cameras on our roads will be going live from Monday.

Land Transport Authority, Board Chair, Vijay Maharaj, says they had to switch off these cameras for the last nine months due to some regulatory changes.

Maharaj says these changes include installation of new infrastructure and mechanical changes to the camera which are now operational.

“Moving ahead, we are working to put seven more cameras mostly in the Western Division because we found that is where most of the fatalities are and mostly the hotspot areas. Apart from this, we also have portable cameras that will move around so that we can use them in the hotspot areas.”

Maharaj says when the cameras were previously operational, it helped the LTA identify the exact driver who needed to be issued with a traffic infringement notices.

He adds 10 cameras will be live from Monday and they are looking at installing more cameras to ensure drivers abide by the law this festive season.
